Spanish. a papier-mâché or clay pot shaped especially like a person or animal, and filled with candy, fruit, and toys, which is hung above the heads of children at Christmastime in Mexico and other Latin-American countries. The children are blindfolded and given chances to break the piñata with a stick to obtain its contents.
